These days, the genre of micro-realism is leading the tattoo trend. The genre has been trending relatively recently, and it features a surprisingly large amount of detail in its small size. Being photorealistic, the style has garnered a lot of attention.
Working under the name Mooji Tattoo, he is an artist with outstanding techniques in this genre. We conducted an interview to hear about his unique tattoo style and tattoo work.
The design that appears repeatedly in his tattoos is the landscape. His style, which mainly carves images with landscape photographs or memories, stands out with very colorful colors and delicate details.
“My guests often bring pictures of various memories. I wanted to express that meaning with tattoos.” Mooji said.Â
This is why landscape-themed designs often appear in his tattoos.
This tattoo is based on a photo of my grandmother nursing her. The guest missed her and wanted to tattoo a picture of her hand that was taking care of her. It was a really meaningful work,’ he says.
It’s very interesting that he’s not just a normal landscape tattoo artist, but he’s working on it with a colorful and original design.Â
We asked him which designs are especially popular among customers.
“Recently, stamps and paint designs have been loved a lot. I think it’s probably because it gives you a more beautiful and special feeling than a basic square or circle. These days, many people prefer tattoos with delicate details, even if they are not big.” He explained.
In addition to conducting various tattoo work on the landscape, he could also be seen specializing in cover-up work.
“Cover-ups require a lot of thought and planning because their goal is to completely cover up existing tattoos. They usually contact me after a lot of thought, so the conversation time with them is longer than normal tattooing. We often start with the reason we decided to cover-ups and have in-depth conversations,” he said.
“Sometimes tattoos on your body can evoke memories and give you good ones, but I don’t think that’s all. It may remain a bad memory or you may want to do cover-ups for personal reasons.”
He is currently active in Seoul, South Korea, and will tour not only Korea but also many countries and serve as a guest artist.
“I want them to leave good memories through the tattoo. After the tattoo is completed successfully, it is my greatest joy when they are satisfied and happy,” he said.
