Are You a Minimalist? Here’s What You Need to Know Before Getting Inked

The new trend in minimalist tattoos doesn’t seem to be fading. In fact, it’s gained popularity since Dua Lipa, Selena Gomez, Hailey Bieber, and Kylie Jenner among other celebrities have recently been sporting small tattoos. Body art purists prefer to stick to more giant artwork and some refuse to do minimalist designs. The smaller sizes of minimalist designs are an advantage for many models and actresses because they are easier to cover up for shoots and scenes.

Minimalism works on the principle that less is more. When it comes to tattoos, artists use the technique of drawing thin black lines, fewer colors, and simple designs. Using simple outlines and just the essential elements of a design make for a clear crisp picture that tells a story. There is less or no shading and fewer detailed intricate designs in a small tattoo.

Simplicity and Creativity

Often simplistic designs need greater use of creativity. If something is big and flashy, it can be easier to conceptualize but also runs the risk of being gaudy and can look cheap.

It doesn’t matter if this is your first or tenth tattoo, getting inked doesn’t necessarily mean choosing the flashiest of designs. After all, it’s the significance of the tattoo that matters the most. And this theory may easily be applied to other aspects where creativity comes into play. Any person with an artistic flair will confirm that sometimes less really is more. Take web designers, for instance, they will be the first to confirm that while a site’s design should be captivating, it shouldn’t be over the top either. This is particularly true for online casino sites – sure, bright, sparkly lights may very well attract players to sign up and play – but being ostentatious isn’t the best route to go down when considering UX.

User Experience Design (UXD or UED) is a design process whereby the main aim of the design is to provide a practical and user-friendly interface for its user. It needs to be useful, enjoyable, add value, and should allow the user to interact with the product.

Placement

Small tattoos can be placed almost anywhere on the body because of their size, but it’s probably wise to avoid certain areas. The skin on the top of your hands and feet tends to move and tattoos on the bottom of your hands and feet fade more easily. This is due to the rough use of these areas.

If later on, you want to get a bigger tattoo, rather don’t get a small tattoo on a big muscle area, because the little one will be in the way.

Good areas for minimalist tattoos are the wrist, lower forearms, behind the neck, shoulders, collarbones, biceps, and pelvis. Lower legs and ankles are also good because the skin quality is good so the tattoos don’t fade as easily.

Size

Aging can cause smaller tattoos to bleed ink into each other, messing up the design, so your artist needs to ensure that the lines aren’t too close together and there is adequate spacing between them. Simple designs are also better when getting small tattoos. Smaller designs need to be more precise and mistakes are more visible.

Fading

Tattoos on the fingers, feet knees, and elbows fade faster as the skin regenerates faster in those areas. Grey tattoos fade faster than black tattoos and tend to look older faster. UV rays and laser causes tattoos to fade. Often the body’s immune system breaks down the ink on the tattoo because the white blood cells try to remove the ink.

Health

People can experience allergic reactions to tattoos because the ink is foreign to your body. Sometimes it happens even years after the tattoo has healed. The dye in blue, yellow, green, and red contain certain chemicals that can cause itching on the skin and raised bumps. With black ink, there is less chance of an allergic reaction.

If the equipment is not sterile, a person could get Staphylococcus, Hepatitis A or C, HIV, or other blood diseases.

If the needles go too deep into the skin, it can cause scarring and keloids, which are a raised overgrowth of scar tissue.

Tattoos can sometimes cause complications during an MRI -Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Tattoos can become swollen during the MRI and the tattoo pigments can interfere with the image quality.

It’s essential to go to a clean, reputable place to get a tattoo. Tattoos need to be done by people who are licensed and take proper health and safety precautions. Check that you see your tattoo artist taking the sterilized equipment from a sealed package. Gloves should be worn for both your safety and theirs.

Hygiene

When getting a tattoo, the needles pierce you repeatedly to inject drops of ink into your skin. This can cause infection so take care of your tattoo in the healing process. Ensure that it is kept clean and dry.

Small tattoos are more discreet, hurt less, and are less time-consuming. The average time is between 15 minutes to 3 hours. They usually cost less, but Tattoo shops still factor in the cost of business, so a smaller tattoo is not always cheaper.

Tattoos can be a form of artistic expression, a memorial to a loved one, or have personal and sentimental significance. With minimalist tattoos, a small picture can be a hint to something of a large impact on the person’s life.
